Occidental Mindoro Hit by Earthquake with 5.2 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.2 magnitude quake in Occidental Mindoro, October 17, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“. But the agency advises the people to wait for factual information and not to panic.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Occidental Mindoro. At 04:06 am, October 17, 2020, Looc was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Occidental Mindoro was located at 13.77°North, 120.44°East – 021 km North 75° East of Looc. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 012 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that no damage is expected of the said quake but aftershocks may take place. The agency recorded the following instrumental intensities felt in the different areas:
- Intensity IV
- Calatagan, Batangas
- Tagaytay City, Cavite
- Intensity III
- Carmona, Cavite
- Intensity II
- Malolos City
- San Rafael, Bulacan
- Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
- Bacoor City
- Marikina City
- Muntinlupa City
- Las Pinas City
- Quezon City
