Some ABS-CBN Shows, Movies Return To Free TV
ABS-CBN – Media giant ABS-CBN announced its broadcast deal with Eddie Villanueva’s Zoe Broadcasting Network Inc.
Media giant ABS-CBN shutdown its free tv and radio broadcast last May 5 – a day after its franchise expired. For years, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte threatened to block the company’s franchise renewal.
Lawmakers allied with the chief executive eventually denied the tv network’s bid for a fresh 25-year franchise last July 10. The company was forced to retrenched thousands of its employees.
The closure of ABS-CBN affected tens of millions of listeners and viewers across the country. On Tuesday, ABS-CBN and Eddie Villanueva’s Zoe Broadcasting Network Inc. announced that the media giant is returning to free-to-air tv in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Villanueva is an influential evangelist and the founder of Jesus is Lord Church.
Based on a report from Inquirer, ABS-CBN sealed an alliance with Villanueva’s tv network. They will begin airing its shows and movies starting October 10 on the A2Z channel 11.
According to the report, ABS-CBN’s agreement with Zoe Broadcasting allows the company to take back some viewers on free tv after 5-month absence. The company was limited to its pay tv and online platforms.
“ABS-CBN and Zoe are committed to work together to provide entertainment, public service programs, and educational content to the public,” the Kapamilya network said in its statement.
Zoe Broadcasting was described as a “Christian, family-oriented and wholesome television and radio broadcasting” on its website and operates over the past 2 decades.
Based on the report, Zoe Broadcasting said A2Z would “serve viewers with uplifting and inspiring shows of life, love, and hope, educational programs, local and foreign movies.” The chair and president of the broadcasting network, Sherwin N. Tugna said “Zoe Channel 11 TV gets a new name, a new look, and a new journey serving God and the Filipino people. We strive to provide Filipinos with the best type of programming and bring glory to the Lord above.”
