Shooting In PMA Leaves Soldier Dead, Two Others Wounded

SHOOTING IN PMA – One soldier was killed while two more were injured in a shooting incident inside the Philippine Military Academy (PMA).

According to SunStar, police reports show that the victim, identified as Army Senior Sergeant Joefrey Turqueza was killed when Airman Second Class Christopher Lim ran amok in their barracks at 4:35 PM on Tuesday.

Lim was equipped with an M16 rifle when it went off during the incident, which injured him and another soldier, identified as Senior Sergeant Vivencio Raton.

Raton is with the Philippine Army while Lim is assigned to the Philippine Air Force.

As for Turqueza, he was declared dead at the Baguio General Hospital, based on the report.

Investigation regarding the shooting incident in the academy at Fort Del Pilar in Baguio City is currently ongoing.

In a separate report, three soldiers were wounded in a bomb explosion in province of Maguindanao.

Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander Major General Juvymax Uy said that the incident occurred in Salman village, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

The troops were conducting combat operation against suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) when one of them tripped on an improvised explosive device that was made as a landmine.

The soldiers were from the 57th Infantry Battalion. Their identities, however, are not disclosed .
