According to a report from SunStar, Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander Major General Juvymax Uy said that the incident took place at around 7:15 AM in Salman village, Ampatuan, Maguindanao.

The troops were conducting combat operation against suspected members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) when one of them tripped on an improvised explosive device that was made as a landmine.

Uy did not identify the wounded soldiers but said that they are from the 57th Infantry Battalion.

Medics immediately responded to the area and applied first aid to the wounded personnel, who were then rushed to Camp Siongco Station Hospital for proper medication.

Uy added that additional troops were sent to close off the blast site and establish the circumstances.

“Inflicting harm to our troops is the desperate device of the weakened terrorist groups to attract attention and harbor support,”

This came from Lieutenant General Corleto Vinluan Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command who also said that they will also strengthen security operations and stay on guard against possible threats, based on the report.

“Rest assured that we will heighten our security operations and stay on guard against the emerging threats in our area of operation,”
