Duterte Planning To Shutdown Facebook? Roque Addresses Rumors
DUTERTE PLANNING TO SHUTDOWN FACEBOOK – Recently, Facebook removed several pages, accounts, and groups that were linked to China.
However, it seemed like the admin had a big issue with the social media giant’s actions. As such, Duterte demanded an audience with Facebook to talk about why they would shut down “advocacy groups” of the government.

But, Facebook already revealed the reason for the shutdown was due to several violations of community guidelines. Furthermore, according to Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s cybersecurity policy chief said the banned accounts had “coordinated inauthentic behavior”.

Following the series of events, rumors spread about Duterte planning to ban Facebook in the Philippines. However, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque emphasized that “the President only said there is a need to talk”.
Furthermore, in a virtual press briefing, Roque stated that banning Facebook won’t be good for both the social media giant and the country. He also noted that the Philippines had the most active Facebook users.
Along with this, he said that banning Facebook in the country would be a huge loss for the social media platform. However, Roque highlighted that banning Facebook could affect many Filipinos.
