Isabela Village Chief, Welfare Officer Arrested Over SAP
ISABELA VILLAGE CHIEF – A village chief in Isabela, Negros Occidental and a social welfare officer were nabbed over SAP anomalies.
The suspects, identified as Mae Fajardo of the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office and Maria Luz Ferrer of Barangay 8 were arrested on two separate days, according to Panay News.
Police in the municipality conducted the operation with an arrest warrant issued by Judge Cyclamen Jison Fernandez of the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court.
Captain Joseph Partidas, acting police chief said that the court urged a P72,000 bail bond for the temporary freedom of Fernandez and P162,000 for Ferrer.
The two were accused of beneficiaries, and falsification of the list of beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP).
Ferrer’s 13-year-old granddaughter was rumored to be among listed to receive P6,000 cash assistance. However, the suspect denied the allegation and said that this might be made by someone who had personal grudges against her.
Based on the report, the suspect clarified that her granddaughter’s real last name was Yurpo, not Ferrer. She said that they will file counter charges against their accuser.
As for Fajardo, she did not issue any statement regarding the allegations.
Earlier, the Office of the Ombudsman earlier placed six Negros Occidental barangay captains under six months of suspension, while one other from Capiz was charged for alleged irregularities in the SAP distribution.
