Sarah Balabagan: Woman Who Has Controversial Claims Vs. Arnold Clavio

Here’s the story of Sarah Balabagan, the woman who is currently trending following revelations.

SARAH BALABAGAN – Historic overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Sarah Balabagan, her story and her controversial claims versus Arnold Clavio.

From 1994 to 1996, overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Sarah Balabagan was imprisoned in United Arab Emirates due to murder. She worked abroad at age 14 with her documents falsified where her age indicated that she’s already 28 years old.

She worked for a 67-year-old widower with four sons and was confident with her employer as both of them were both Muslims, however, it was the other way around as she was subjected of unsolicited sexual advances. In year 1994, she killed her employer by stabbing him for 34 times.

Accordingly, her employer tried to sexually assault her and what she did is self-defense. The court recognized she’s a rape victim but was convicted of murder. However, a second Islamic court found no evidence that she was abused, thus, she was about to face death penalty by firing squad.

It sparked an international outcry and due to personal appeal for mercy by President of the United Arab Emirates then Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the family of the killed employer withdraw their demand of execution in exchange for a certain amount of money.

October 30, the third trial, her imprisonment was reduced to 1 year and 100 strokes of the cane. The amount asked by the family was paid a Filipino businessman. She returned to Philippines on August 1, 1996. And later on, her story was featured in a film entitled The Sarah Balabagan Story directed by Joel Lamangan with the titular role portrayed by Vina Morales.
