MASBATE EARTHQUAKE: Phivolcs Says “No Tsunami Threat” in PH

Phivolcs Advisory Following 6.6 Magnitude Masbate Earthquake This Morning, August 18

MASBATE EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that there is no tsunami threat in the country following the recent quake in Masbate.

Earthquakes are natural occurrences that can hardly be predicted. Most countries have designated agencies that are tasked to record quakes that are happening in different areas. Those nations that are lying in the Pacific Ring of Fire are prone to such natural events.

A quake may take place in land and as well as in waters. In the case of the latter, it may trigger tsunami which is also the same when a quake hit an area near coastal waters.

In the Philippines which is one of the countries lying along the Pacific Ring of Fire, it is the Phivolcs that releases bulletins and information about quakes and tsunami threats in the country.
