According to Inquirer, the sea turtles (Binomial name: Chelonia mydas) emerged from their nest, which was at the coastline of Barangay Digumased. This was a statement from chief of the Palanan community environment and natural resources office Federico Cauilan, Jr.
“The release of the green sea turtles aims to instill [on the people] the importance of protecting endangered species and to boost the population and promote environmental protection,”
Cauilan added that there was an adult green sea turtle who laid eggs in the said area a couple of months ago.
Information officer of the provincial environment and natural resources office Racquel Caldez reported that marine turtles fall under the “vulnerable” category because of their threatened hatching sites.
