The government and health officials urged the public to wear face masks and face shields to protect themselves against COVID-19. These protective devices should be worn at all times to prevent transmission.

On Saturday, August, 15, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) shared how to make your own face shield in just ten seconds on its Facebook Page. Wearing this protective device will soon be required in establishments. The instructional video was originally posted by Pumapapel Crafts.

“While there’s no substitute for proper medical equipment, it’s a good idea to have even a little additional protection than to have none at all. This is best used in low-risk environments, for grocery shoppers, employees, elderly people, and as a last resort when you have no other PPEs.”

All you need to get started are face mask, clear plastic or acetate, and cutter. To make DIY face shield, fold the clear plastic in two and cut one cut a slanted line on the side. Unfold the clear plastic then insert the face mask garters in the holes.

“Hindi po natin kinakailangang gumastos ng mahal. Marami sa mga materyales na kailangan, nasa paligid lamang natin,” DOTr said.
