Miss Earth 2020: First Virtual Coronation Event To Push Through Amid Pandemic

The coronation event of Miss Earth 2020 is set to happen amid the crisis

Miss Earth 2020 finals will push through amid the COVID-19 pandemic and this will be done through the first-ever virtual coronation event in the history of the pageant.

The Philippine-based international beauty pageant that is promoting the environment was launched in 2001. After two decades, it is set to do a milestone when it comes to pageantry. Due to the pandemic, several pageant organizations already postponed or cancelled the competition for this year.

However, the health crisis and the needed protocols did not hinder the organizers of Miss Earth to push through the coronation event this year.

Based on the article from ABS-CBN, the finals will be held on November 29, 2020. “Mas nakakahiya kung hindi ituloy because we are an advocacy-driven pageant for environmental protection. This is the time when we’re more needed for awareness to inspire people to take action on many environmental issues.”  head of Carousel Productions and management company of Miss Earth Lorraine Schuck said.

In celebration of the pageant’s 20th anniversary, Schuck targets to have over 80 candidates to join the Miss Earth 2020 with the theme “Eco Angels”. This will emphasize the role of the beauty pageant contestants as guardians of nature as well as being the innovators of lifestyles amid the new norm.

“They will shoot it themselves. It will be a very rich video presentation,” the pageant head explained. The much-anticipated Q and A will take place through teleconference and the passing of the crown by Puerto Rico’s Nellys Pimentel will happen in a virtual ceremony on the aforementioned date.
