MRT, LRT, PNR Halt Operations Starting August 4

MRT, LRT, PNR – Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit 1, and LRT-2 will halt its operation following the reimposition of ‘modified enhanced community quarantine’ (MECQ).

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and COVID-19 task force assembled an emergency meeting on Sunday, August 2 after coronavirus cases spike and medical workers asked to place the National Capital Region (NCR) under ‘enhanced community quarantine’ (ECQ). Duterte approved the reimposition of MECQ in Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan.

Under MECQ, non-essential travel and public transports are prohibited. Company shuttle, private vehicles, and bicycles are allowed on the road.

The rail lines in Metro Manila, Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit 1, and LRT-2 will halt its operation following the reimposition of the MECQ. They will suspend operations starting Tuesday, August 4 until August 18 or until NCR shifts back to ‘general community quarantine’ (GCQ).

In an advisory, the MRT-3 said, “Dahil sa pagpapanumbalik ng Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) sa Kalakhang Maynila, pansamantala po munang ititigil ang operasyon ng MRT-3 simula Aug. 4, hanggang Aug. 18, o hanggang maibalik muli ang NCR sa GCQ.”
