Ces Drilon Hits Duterte Administration Anew Over ABS-CBN Franchise

Statement of Ces Drilon On Duterte Administration over ABS-CBN Franchise Denial

CES DRILON – The ABS-CBN news reporter hit the Duterte administration anew over the denial of the ABS-CBN franchise.

The ABS-CBN failed to obtain a fresh 25-year franchise. The House Franchise Committee denied the network of a new franchise with a 70-11 voting result.

It was last July 10 when the House members voted on whether or not to deny the Kapamilya network of a new franchise. Thirteen (13) hearings were held prior to it to discuss the issues surrounding the network.

The decision of the House gained different reactions from the people. Undeniably, a lot of people did not see it coming that a network which operated for decades will be shut down again.

A few days after the House denied the network of a new franchise, its management released a statement confirming the employee retrenchment. One of those who lost their job is ABS-CBN News reporter Ces Drilon.

Yesterday, a SONAgKAISA was held by the celebrities during the Duterte SONA 2020. Ces is one of those who attended the said rally.

Based on a report on Pep, Ces Drilon spoke and hit the Duterte administration anew over the ABS-CBN franchise denial. According to her, they are a victim of an oppressive administration.

Ces made it clear that she was not representing the ABS-CBN network or the employees who lost their job there. She stressed the importante of the freedom of the press.

“Kami po ay biktima ng isang mapaniil na administrasyon. Ang freedom of the press po ay isang karapatan ng bawat isang Pilipino, at hindi po ito isang prebilihiyo na sinasabi ng ating Presidente,” she said.

Based on the report, Ces stressed that the media is the voice of those who have no voices and the freedom of the press is a right of everyone. Citing that they can report on social media, the Kapamilya news reporter raised the situation of those who are only relying on TV and radio.

According to the ABS-CBN news reporter, what happened to the network is allegedly a message to other networks. She said that they were denied of a franchise because one person does not like their reporting.
