Charter Change Proposal Deliberations To Resume After Duterte SONA

Deliberation of Charter Change Proposals Set to Resume After Pres. Duterte’s SONA

Charter Change proposal deliberations are set to resume after the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on July 27.

The Duterte SONA 2020 is set to be held in Batasang Pambansa on July 27. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a lot of changes may be expected in regards to the said national event.

In the previous SONAs, all the members of the Senate and the House of Representatives attend the event together with their spouses. Many personalities are really head-turners as they dress up for the event.

This coming July 27, only around 50 people will be allowed to witness the SONA of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte live at Batasang Pambansa. According to Malacañang, he will deliver his speech physically.

There are several proposed changes in the Constitution being pushed. Based on the report, the said move sparked a reaction from Vice President Leni Robredo who questions the timing of the move to resume the deliberation as PH is in the midst of a pandemic.

Reportedly, the interior Department stressed that it is not pushing for the changing of the Constitution but only the amendments of some of its parts. According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, the focus of the government is still on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and the charter change is not among its priorities now.
