Franklin Drilon Comment About Dismantling Oligarchy To President Duterte

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said this on Wednesday to President Duterte.

FRANKLIN DRILON – Political dynasties should be banned says Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon to dismantle oligarchy.

In a previous article, President Rodrigo Duterte allegedly admitted in Sulu that he was the one behind the dismantling of the ABS-CBN oligarchs. The biggest media company in the Philippines jut got officially shut down after 70 lawmakers voted to junk their franchise renewal application.

Just recently, he also stated something about the oligarchy that he was able to destroy despite not declaring a Martial Law. Speculation quickly emerged that he was referring to the network but Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque denied and clarified that he was referring to Lucio Tan, Manny Pangilinan, and the Ayala clan.

Now, in a report from ABS-CBN, Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said on Wednesday, July 15, that oligarchy is easily achieved because of “lack of an anti-dynasty provision”. He added he can sit down with the current administration to examine and amend laws that makes such possible.

He said, “One of those is the lack of the anti-dynasty law… They have made our national and local offices extensions of their household. They wield power for their own benefit. It has gone so bad that these dynasties now hold simultaneous national and local positions.”

Accordingly, it was Drilon who tirelessly filed the anti-dynasty bill in several Congress sessions but this would always fail to pass. In our country, most lawmakers are part of political dynasties. As with Duterte, his eldest son Paolo Davao City first district representative, his daughter Sara sits as Davao City Mayor, and his youngest Sebastian is the vice mayor.
