Is this statement of Pres. Duterte intended for ABS-CBN franchise denial?
ABS-CBN Franchise Denial – President Rodrigo Duterte has this statement days after the decision of the House of Representatives against the TV giant.
On July 10, the Congress has released its verdict against the Kapamilya network with 70 votes to junk its franchise application while only 11 lawmakers rallied behind the media company.
After this decision, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement that the Malacanang has maintained to be neutral when it comes to this matter.
“Ang paninindigan ng Presidente neutral po siya diyan. Huwag kayong mag-alala mga congressmen, hindi po magagalit o matutuwa ang Presidente kung ipasa ang [prangkisa ng] ng ABS-CBN,” he said during an interview with PTV-4.
On Monday, speaking before the soldiers in Sulu, the Chief Executive said that he was able to dismantle the oligarchy even without declaring Martial Law, based on the report from GMA News Online.
“Kung mamatay ako, mahulog eroplano, p***ngina, I am very happy. Alam mo [kung] bakit? Without declaring martial law, I dismantled the oligarchy that controlled the economy of the Philippines,” he said in his speech which was aired on Tuesday.
He added that he was able to destroy those who are holding the economy of the Philippines and are not paying taxes. “They take advantage of their political power every election. Isang kuwarto lang iyan, nag-uusap, ‘Sinong kandidato natin ngayon?’ Isang pamilya lang nag-uusap,” the President said.
Despite Duterte did not mention the name of the family he called oligarch, this came less than a week after the voting in Congress which resulted to ABS-CBN franchise denial, the media company that is owned by the rich and famous family – the Lopezes.
