ACT-CIS Representative claimed that he received this offer in line with ABS-CBN franchise issue
ABS-CBN Franchise – ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap is claiming that an emissary of the TV giant offered him P200 million for his “yes” vote.
Weeks has passed since the House hearing on the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN started. Every session, various issues are being addressed against the network that have been part of the Philippine broadcast industry for more than 6 decades.
As the verdict is nearing, if the congressmen will support the franchise renewal or deny the granting of this, more and more issues surface. Even the land title where the headquarters of the media company is being located is being questioned by Rep. Rodante Marcoleta.
He claimed during Day 15 of the House hearing that the land title that the network presented before the Congress was fake. Another issue has emerged against ABS-CBN again.
Congressman Eric Yap of the Anti-Crime and Terrorism Community Involvement and Support Partylist said that the network’s emissary offered him money.
“More than two weeks ago, may tumawag sa atin, nagpakilalang emisaryo ng ABS CBN at hinihimok tayong bumoto pabor sa ABS CBN kapalit ng 200 Million pesos,” he said in a press release.
Yap said, “hindi for sale ang prinsipyo at boto ko.” According to him, he did not reveal this to the public because he was not sure if that person who called him is really from ABS-CBN and that would be unfair for the network.
He added that he also heard similar cases of money being offered to certain people but those are still unconfirmed. “Buhay na buhay ang press freedom sa bansa hanggang sa puntong inaabuso na ito para sa pansariling interest ng iilan,” the lawmaker said.
