DILG Says Swab Tests Not Needed For Residents Returning To Provinces

SPREADING POSITIVITY? – COVID-19 Task Force Officials said swab tests are not needed for residents returning to their provinces.

According to Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, the proposed mandatory polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests for stranded individuals wanting to return to their provinces has yet to be approved.

Based on an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo, Año stated:

Nagkaroon lang siguro ng miscommunication. Hindi required ‘yung PCR testing sa kanila. Hindi pa naman na-approve ‘yung bagong pino-propose nating protocol na maga-undergo ng PCR testing ang mga LSI pero ito ay doon na sa kanilang point of destination

(Maybe there was a miscommunication. PCR testing is not required for them. Our new proposed protocol that requires PCR testing for LSI at their point of destination has yet to be approved.)

However, as per the interview, Año clarified the statement of Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. He explained that travelers going to areas in Visayas and Mindanao are required to show the results of their nasal swap tests.

Meanwhile, the government was reported to shoulder the returning residents’ PCR test. Moreover, Año emphasized that they are preparing to distribute more test kits.
