Nancy Binay Calls Out DOTr, LTFRB “Wag Maging Bulag At Bingi Sa Iyak Ng Mga Driver”

JEEPNEY OPERATIONS? – Senator Nancy Binay calls out the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regarding the future of jeepney operations.

Due to the coronavirus lockdown, thousands of jeepney drivers have lost their source of daily income. But, following the lifting of quarantine restrictions, limited public transportation has been allowed.

However, in some areas, jeepney operations are still suspended. Meanwhile, no clear answer on when the jeepneys could begin operations again.

This prompted Senator Nancy Binay to call out DOTr and LTFRB. According to a report from News5 AKSYON, the Senator said:

Sobra nang nahihilo ang ating mga tsuper sa kadi-dribble at pagpapasa-pasa ng DOTr at LTFRB kung papayagan ba silang bumiyahe. Bakid di nila diretsang sabihin kung ano man ang plano ng gobyerno sa kanila? Makakabalik paba ang mga jeep o hindi na?

Following this, LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra said that both UV Express and traditional jeepneys would be allowed in Metro Manila starting next week. Based on an article from Inquirer, Dalgra stated:

For Monday may bubuksan na mga (there will be slots opened for) UV, and then followed by the traditional jeepney

However, he did mention that Malacañang said that the UV Express units would have a better chance of resuming operations than traditional jeepneys amid the coronavirus epidemic.
