MMDA Records 1 Mishap Per Day after Concrete Barriers for Bus Lane Installed

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) records 1 road mishap per day since the bus lane concrete barriers were installed in EDSA.

Every day, the MMDA reports that an accident happens involving the newly installed concrete barriers for bus lanes on the left side of EDSA. The concrete barriers were placed on June 1 as the new bus lane scheme was introduced in EDSA following the declaration of a general community quarantine in Metro Manila.

“From June 1 to June 18 or 19, halos ang average natin, minimum of one per day. Mga naka-20 tayo diyan, almost 20 na aksidente,” said Bong Nebrija, MMDA traffic head EDSA.

The MMDA is aware of motorists’ complaints about concrete barriers, but he explained that such barriers as lane separators are practiced everywhere, not just here in our country, based on the report of Inquirer. There are hazard markers on the concrete barriers where motorists can see.

According to Nebrija, the most common causes of accidents are drunk driving, cellphone use while driving, overspeeding and weather conditions. The incidents are considered “self-accident” because the vehicles crashed alone and no other vehicles involved.

Early in the morning, accidents often occur. Nebrija, meanwhile, added that the construction of the bus stops in the middle of the island of EDSA is near near to complete.
