Broadway diva Lea Salonga shared this message for her supporters amid her controversial statement and this received criticisms from other netizens.

Through her Facebook post, Lea shared her message for the Philippines. “Dear Pilipinas, p***** ina, ang hirap mong mahalin,” she wrote. Because of this, several netizens aired their speculations. Some said that it was her response for the guilty verdict against Rappler CEO Maria Ressa which for latter’s supporters a violation of “press freedom”.

On the other hand, there were those who believed that it is her views about the Anti-Terrorism Bill. In line with this, Vivian Velez, a known supporter of the present administration, contradicted Lea Salonga.

Netizens who are also supporting the government made the hashtag “Dear Pilipinas Sarap Mong Mahalin” trend on Twitter on Wednesday as they counter-attack to the swearing post of the singer-actress.

However, supporters of Lea are also vocal in showing that they are ready to defend her. With this, the Broadway star shared this message for her supporters. “To everyone that has my back, thank you. You have my appreciation. I am very grateful,” she wrote in her Twitter post.

Fans of the singer-actress expressed further support to her and thanked her also for speaking her mind. On the other hand, there were those who criticized this post of Lea Salonga.

One said that she should sing only while the other one accused her of garnering sympathy on social media. There was a netizen also who said that “people who issue vague statements on issues are opportunists.”

Another one asked Lea’s opinion about the issue concerning her fellow singers Daryl Ong and Bugoy Drilon who got banned from ABS-CBN.
