OFWs in Saudi Arabia has this devastating situation

A group of Filipinos working in Saudi Arabia who are skilled workers are now scavenging the garbage for food amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

One of the sectors who is highly affected by the spread of the new coronavirus are the overseas Filipino workers. Several of them got infected while some were stranded where they were before the lockdown.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN, there is a group of OFWs in the middle east that has a devastating situation right now. These skilled workers in Riyadh became unemployed due to the pandemic.

A video from Reymond Zaragosa and Donald De Las Alas showed that the group of 10 Pinoys is scavenging the garbage to find something that they could eat such as fruits and vegetables.

If they find things that they can still use, they keep them. These Pinoys divide themselves into two groups when they do are finding what they could eat.

Reportedly, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office has provided them food packs but unfortunately, these were not enough.

This group of OFWs in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia is also set to file complaints against their employers because they haven’t received their salaries for almost four months now. They haven’t received benefits also from their companies.

Based on the report, they already filed a request for repatriation back in February to POLO but the agency has not responded until now. This situation is now being coordinated with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).
