With the repeated questions asked to him by the lawmakers of the House Committees on Legislative Franchises and Good Government and Public Accountability, Lopez answered each clearly and patiently. This has become one of the most controversial issues because according to the law, ownership and management of mass media should only be limited and exclusive to Filipino citizens only.

Answering a question from Anak Kalusugan Rep. Mike Defensor who cited that public officials are not allowed to have dual citizenship, Lopez answered, “I always tell employees, it is not just a a job, calling. So please if you are going to look beyond technicality, and allegiance, please look at my record over last 35 years.”

He denied renouncing his Philippine citizenship since he was born but admitted that he was able to vote during the 2016 United States presidential elections. He insisted that ever since, he lived being a Filipino and that he will live and die in the Philippines.

He’s not accordingly neglecting the thought of it but in every actions he has done and in his heart, he is a Filipino. And “if it came down to a conflict of interest”, the network’s chairman said he is willing to drop his US citizenship “in a minute”.
