Japan Approves Use Of New Virus Test Using Saliva Instead Of Mucus

JAPAN NEW VIRUS TEST – Admittedly, the current method of determining whether or not a person has the coronavirus appears like a daunting task.

Previously, medical workers grab a mucus sample from the back of your nose by inserting a long rod to collect it. But, with Japan’s new method, testing for the coronavirus became faster and easier.

Instead of using mucus to detect the virus, Japanese researchers take saliva samples. As such, collection of sample becomes so much more easier and safer. With this, suspected patients have less chances of transmitting the virus to medical workers.

In contrast to being face-to-face with a suspected patient while getting mucus samples, suspected cases now simply present their saliva in a container. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Japan’s health minister Katsunobu Kato stated:

Both the burden on patients and sample-collecting institutions that need to protect staff from infections will be alleviated significantly

As per the article, the test was said to target those who have shown symptoms of coronavirus within nine days. Furthermore, the new test is also covered by Health insurance in Japan.

Moreover, the test would be available at outpatient departments in assigned hospitals and PCR centers. With this method, hospitals have a lowered risk of infections.

However, some argue that the method would be ineffective as the virus could potentially be much smaller compared to the music. But, during a study, the results of 88 COVID-19 patients were found identical to within the nine-day period.
