ABS-CBN Franchise: ‘The end is near’ – SolGen Jose Calida

SolGen Calida is already seeing the near end of the ABS-CBN franchise?

Solicitor General Jose Calida said the line ‘the end is near’ on Monday’s House hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise.

Calida attended the hearing conducted by the House of Representatives on June 1 despite his previous reason that the case was already filed at the Supreme Court. On the other hand, on Monday, the SolGen graced the hearing with his reiteration that ABS-CBN has violations.

He said that the network has been deceiving the Filipino people and has committed many violations that became unnoticed to the public.

However, Calida refused to answers questions regarding the pending case that he filed against ABS-CBN before the Supreme Court. He also stressed that they will not give up on their legal battle against the TV network.

The SolGen even likened this legal battle to one that they did against Sen. Leila De Lima and former Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno.

Based on the report from ABS-CBN, the House hearing would also investigate the letter that Calida sent to NTC that allegedly pressured the latter to issue the cease and desist order against the media company.

“I am not at loggerheads with Congress. I only cautioned the NTC of its possible encroachment on legislative power if it issued a provisional authority,” the Solicitor General stated.

During the House hearing, Calida also answered the rant on social media of Coco Martin. To recall, the Ang Probinsyano actor slammed the NTC as well as the Solicitor General for their effort to shut down their home network.

According to SolGen Calida, the rant of the Kapamilya actor simply “showed a clear lack of understanding” regarding the ABS-CBN franchise issue.
