Gang of Monkeys Snatch Suspected COVID-19 Patients Blood Samples in India
Gang of monkeys in India snatch the blood samples of suspected coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients at the government hospital.
According to the report of CNN, the monkeys allegedly attacked the medical official and captured the blood samples. The laboratory technician from the state-run medical college in Meerut Uttar Pradesh was walking when he was attacked by monkeys.
“Monkeys grabbed and fled with the blood samples of four COVID-19 patients who were undergoing treatment … we had to take their blood samples again,” said Dr S. K. Garg, a university official.
Authorities do not yet know what the monkeys did in the blood samples. But people living near the university are worried that the monkeys may cause COVID-19 spread in the area.
According to Garg, it is not yet clear whether COVID-19 can infect monkeys if they come close to the patient’s infected blood. The medical superintended, however, confirmed that no individual did some contact with the samples.
The hospital authorities also said they have already sanitized the area and disposed the samples snatched by the monkeys. Hospital authorities are now urged by the district administration to explain the alleged mishandling of the samples.
To date, there are 165,799 coronavirus cases in India, with 4,706 patients dying. Due to deforestation, the number of monkeys in India is increasing in areas where people are looking for food.
