The current Bayanihan law states that the additional powers granted to President Duterte in order to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic is set to expire by June, according to Inquirer.

Under the bills’s explanatory note, the extension will allow President Duterte to still exercise the realignment of items in the national budget and other powers given to him under the aforementioned law.

This is in order for him to be able to provide emergency support for groups and individuals at risk, expand medical resources to fight the virus, and finance emergency initiatives in order to keep the economy afloat.

“The extension will allow the President to continue to exercise the realignment of items in the national budget and other powers granted to him under the said law to be able to provide emergency support for vulnerable groups and individuals, expand medical resources to fight COVID-19, and finance emergency initiatives to keep the economy afloat,”

As per the report, the Bayanihan To Heal As One Act was approved by the Congress in a special session on March 23 and President Duterte signed the said measure a couple of days later.
