Aurora Hit by Earthquake with 5.4 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.4 magnitude quake in Aurora, May 23, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, last April 22, 2019, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Aurora. At 10:10 am, May 23, 2020, San Luis was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Aurora was located at 15.57°North, 121.52°East – 016 km South 02° West of San Luis. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 007 kilometers.
Phivolcs expects damages and aftershocks of the said quake. The following intensities were felt in these areas:
