Duque Says No Proof Of Asymptomatic Transmission Of COVID-19 Presented

ASYMPTOMATIC TRANSMISSION – Health Secretary Francisco Duque said there was still no proof of asymptomatic transmission of COVID-19.

During a Senate hearing, the health secretary was questioned regarding the Health Department’s plans on “Silent Spreaders”. These were the people who had no symptoms but were positive for the virus.

According to an article from GMA, Duque stated:

Ang WHO, hanggang ngayon po, wala po silang ulat o ebidensyang nakakalap na magpapakita na nakakahawa ang mga asymptomatic

Furthermore, he emphasized that there has been no documented asymptomatic transmission. However, he noted that this does not exclude the possibility that it may occur.

Meanwhile, there have been several studies that found presymptomatic coronavirus carriers could contaminate others. However, as per the report, Duque said it would be difficult to detect asymptomatic carriers.

Moreover, a study from the Nature Medicine confirmed that 94 COVID-19 positive patients were shown to be more infectious right before showing symptoms. The study revealed that at least 44 percent of people from the study got the virus from those who felt health at the time.

The researchers of the study also noted that a person who is mildly sick could just be as contagious as someone with severe symptoms. Furthermore, the virus could also be spread through talking , sneezing, and coughing.

Along with this, people who were newly exposed to the virus could start transmitting the virus within 24 to 28 hours. Thus, contact tracing and isolating positive patients are of high importance.
