Here’s what you need to know about Acute Myeloid Leukemia, the illness of vlogger Emman Nimedez.
ACUTE MYELOID LEUKEMIA – YouTube vlogger Emman Nimedez battles Acute Myeloid Leukemia, what is this kind of cancer disease?
There are a lot of kinds of cancer and cells in any part of the body can develop into a cancer. And Leukemia, according to Cancer.org, “starts in the early forms of white blood cells”and in some cases, in other types of blood cells.
It has several types and identified to be either acute or chronic. Acute means it is fast growing and chronic is slow growing. And accordingly it starts on myeloid cells or lymphoid cells. Just recently, Pinoy YouTube vlogger Emman Nimedez broke everyone’s hearts after sharing that he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
AML or Acute myeloid leukemia accordingly starts in the bone marrow and quickly affects the blood. It is medically called acute because it has a rapid progress and myeloid because this is the type of cell that has been affected. It can also spread to various parts of the body such as lymph nodes, liver, spleen, central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), and testicles.
Its other terms are acute myelocytic leukemia, acute myelogenous leukemia, acute granulocytic leukemia, and acute non-lymphocytic leukemia. Some of its risk factors include aging (mostly common to older people), common in males (reason for this is not clear yet), smoking, exposure to certain chemicals, certain chemotherapy drugs, radiation exposure, blood disorders, genetic syndrome, and family history.
This type of cancer can be treated with chemotherapy which can be followed by a stem cell transplant as per Cancer.org. How deadly can this type of cancer be? According to Medscape, a patient with AML can die due to uncontrolled infection or hemorrhage which can possibly happen even after “use of appropriate blood product and antibiotic support.”
