Quarantine Violator Allegedly Mauled by Cops In General Trias, Cavite
COPS – A 30-yer-old quarantine violator in General Trias, Cavite claimed he was mauled by cops on May 12.
Due to the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVDI-19) threat, people are advised to stay indoors to halt the spread of the virus from China. The Philippine government ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to arrest anyone who violated the quarantine rules.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte mandated an 8 pm to 5 am curfew. However, lots of people who are violating the physical distancing and quarantine regulations.
Based on a report from CNN Philippines, the cops in General Trias, Cavite allegedly mauled a factory worker for violating the quarantine rules in Tropical Village, Barangay San Francisco. A 30-year-old man named Ronald Ocampo sustained bruises, wounds and skull fractures, his brother Rolando said.
Ronald is confined to General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital in Trece Martires City. His brother said he is still lying in bed and could barely move because of the bruises.
“Nakahiga pa rin, hirap pa ring gumalaw sir. Yung katawan niya kasi sobrang bugbog, lamog na lamog po,” said Rolando.
According to the report, the factory worker said he was nabbed along with other violators. Cops brought them to a town plaza to exercise as a form of punishment. Ronald said he cops woke him and another man because a high-ranking officer has something to say. He said they were brought to the darker side of the plaza then the cops allegedly starts punching their face and beat them with a club.
“Inaano po nila ako ng batuta, tapos sinusuntok nila ako sa mukha. Nagtatakbo na lang ako. Nasasaktan na po nila ako…”
“Tapos tumakbo na lang po ako, sobrang takot ko kasi baka patayin na lang nila ako e. Kaya tumakbo na lang po ako. Humingi po ako ng tulong sa iba,” he added.
CNN got a chance to connect with the cops. Cavite Police Chief Col. Marlon Santos confirmed that Ronald Ocampo was among those arrested but denied all his allegations. He said Ronald was under the influence of alcohol and tried to escape from them. He tried to climb a roof but due to his drunkenness, he landed on a pool with no water.
“Yung alleged na binugbog e hindi siya binugbog. Pinaninindigan ng chief of police na hindi siya binugbog… Sa kanyang effort na tumakas, umakyat siya ng bubong, dahil sa kalasingan niya, nalaglag siya, una ulo. Tinalon niya ang swimming pool na walang tubig. Nalaglag sa kanal in his efforts to elude arrest,” siad Santos.
