Reporter Jeff Canoy shared this story
ABS-CBN reporter Jeff Canoy shared a heart-melting story of support for the TV network after it signed off more than a week ago.
Celebrities and other employees of the media giant in the Philippines have been buzzing on social media for its defense against the cease and desist order. Some drew out inspiration from the public to also express their thoughts regarding this issue while some received criticisms for how they have said what they feel.
However, the post of Jeff Canoy, a reporter of ABS-CBN’s primetime news program TV Patrol, shared a different tune that melted the hearts of many.
In his recent Facebook post, the field reporter said that he and his team assigned to cover the typhoon. At the Aurora border, they had to get out of their vehicle at a checkpoint. With a bit of worry, he said, “Sabi ko, luh. Paano ‘to.”
Canoy said that the personnel at the checkpoint took their IATF ID and listed their names. When the policeman returned their IDs, they were asked.
“Sir, diba kayo ‘yung nasa bagyo parati?”, the policeman asked and Canoy said yes. The reporter was asked again by the policeman, “Babalik na ba kayo sir?”
Canoy answered that they were just about to go to Aurora to cover the typhoon. “Hindi sir. ‘Yung ABS, babalik na ba? Facebook na lang ba kayo? Hirap ng data dito sa bundok sir,” the checkpoint personnel answered.
The policeman added that ABS-CBN is the only network that has a strong signal in that area and that they can’t get update on the typhoon from the internet.
“Hirap nga sir pero ganun muna talaga siguro. Sana makabalik na kayo sir. Hintayin namin balita mo sa bagyo sir. Ingat parati,” the policeman said.
According to reporter Jeff Canoy, this scenario is “lakas maka-fragile”, especially at these trying times for ABS-CBN. “Salamat, salamat mga ser! Para sa inyo ang mga balita,” he said.
