The police official who attended the birthday celebration of Pangasinan Mayor during COVID-19 pandemic has been relieved from the position.
The police official was identified as Police Captain Peter Paul Sison, chief of Sto. Tomas Police in Pangasinan after the “impartial investigation” conducted after the video becomes viral, according to the statement from the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office.
“The Chief of Police [of Sto. Tomas] was immediately relieved to make way for an imperial investigation on the alleged violation of the guidelines of the ECQ, while the mayor of the said municipality together with the persons present in the said video will be subjected to a thorough investigation,” it said.
According to the report of GMA News, Sison was the one who was seen handing over the cake to the Mayor of Sto. Tomas, Timoteo Villar III. Investigators are also preparing to file a criminal case against police officials.
“The investigators are [also] preparing the necessary documents needed in filing criminal and administrative charges against those in violation.”
Previously, the son of the town Mayor, councilor Dickerson Villar uploaded the photos and video clips of “midnight harana” on May 8. “O, tulog tayong lahat sa kulungan! Dami nating nilabag: curfew, social distancing,” his son said on the video.
The Mayor was seen shaking hands with the visitors one by one and mingling with no physical distancing and not even wearing face mask. The celebration was held along with the mañanita of National Capital Region Police Officer chief PMGen Debold Sinas on May 8.
NCRPO chief is now under investigation and criminal case is now being readied. The Palace has already said that charges are expected to be filed against him.
