This frontliner couple has to do these sacrifices
A frontliner couple shares their sacrifices that they are doing while fighting against the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Amid the health crisis, medical frontliners are like the lead characters of story without a certain ending yet. Every single day, despite the risk of getting infected, they still do what their duties require them to do.
This is what Ninia and Ryan Cabulay are doing every day since the pandemic occurred. They are both nurses at the Dr. Jose N. Rodriguez Memorial Hospital and Sanitarium, a COVID-19 referral hospital in Caloocan City, based on the report from GMA News Online.
Ryan is assigned to the Communication Center of the hospital while Ninia is stationed at the Hospital Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit. She is one of the nurses who get the specimen from patients with COVID-19 symptoms.
Aside from this, she also assigned to interviewing patients and they are not wearing complete PPE while doing this which is riskier.
Despite the risk, this frontliner couple continues to serve their fellow Filipinos by still doing their jobs amid the pandemic. Ninia said that the only thing that they could do is to pray and be brave.
Being away from their child is another sacrifice that Ninia and Ryan had to do. They had to leave their child under the care of their parents in order to avoid the risk of getting infected. And that is just simply heartbreaking for them.
“Minsan umiiyak ako. Nami-miss ko kasi talaga ‘yung anak ko kasi sanay siya na kapag matutulog kami kakantahan ko siya…” Ninia said.
She also shared that she and her husband already have an arrangement if ever one of them gets infected, based on the report.
“Napaguusapan po namin ‘yan ng magasawa. ‘Yun nga sabi ko sakanya if ever — ako po kasi talaga ‘yung pinaka exposed sa aming dalawa — if ever may mangyari sa akin at saka ‘yung sarili niya rin wag niyang papabayaan. Kumabaga, may mga habilin kami sa isa’t isa kung sinuman ‘yung mahahawa samin pero sana hindi dumating sa puntong ganu’n,” the nurse said.
