BREAKING NEWS – NEDA Chief Ernesto Pernia resigned from his post amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in Philippines due to these reasons.

On Friday, April 17, Ernesto Pernia resigned from his cabinet post and from his position in the state planning agency National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). He confirmed his resignation in a statement where he indicated that these realizations have been made during Holy Week and after asking the opinions of his family and colleagues.

Not explaining much and further about his reasons why he is letting go of his position, he just stated in his statement, that he came up at such decision partly due to personal reason and partly due to “differences in development philosophy with a few of his fellow Cabinet members.”

In his statement, he expressed his gratitude to the president for appointing him in the said position and he also thanked his NEDA family for the trust and confidence they gave him as their head. He served the country through his position for almost four years.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, meanwhile, informed that President Duterte accepted his resignation amid the height of COVID-19 pandemic in the country. Finance Undersecretary Karl Kendrick Chua will replace him as acting NEDA secretary as per GMA report.
