Palace Officials & Guests To Undergo Coronavirus Testing Before Meeting President Duterte, Harry Roque Says

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that officials and palace guests need to undergo virus testing before meeting President Duterte.

On Wednesday (April 15, 2020), the presidential spokesperson said that any guests who were scheduled to meet President Rodrigo Duterte in Malacañang Palace will be required to be tested for coronavirus disease first.

Roque explained that the rapid testing for palace guests is necessary to ensure the safety of Mr. Duterte. He also said that the test has similarity with the fasting blood sugar test or pregnancy test.

“The precaution … [is meant] to protect the President given that it’s not expensive,” Roque said.

Unfortunately, the Department of Health rejected the rapid testing to prevent the possibility of producing inaccurate results. however, Roque said that if an individual test positive, he/she is most likely infected.

The Palace official also said that the physical distancing from President Duterte is now observed inside the Palace.

“No Cabinet member can actually go next to the President nowadays; there is a cordon. You cannot cross the velvet cordon,” Roque added.
