Malacañang Palace: No Need For Visayas, Mindanao Under ECQ, Yet
MALACAÑANG PALACE – The Malacañang Palace said that Visayas and Mindanao does not need to be under enhanced community quarantine for COVID-19, yet.
Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that several local chief executives in the two island groups of the Philippines already imposed the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in their respective scope, preventing the entry and spread of the virus, according to Panay News.
“Sa madaling sabi ‘yung Visayas at sa Mindanao ay depende po sa sitwasyon. Pero sa ngayon, sa tingin natin ay hindi kailangan,”
Meanwhile, Karlo Nograles, Cabinet Secretary and Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for Emerging Infectious Diseases spokesperson, said that the among their plans of prevention include extension of ECQ in the biggest island group.
Nograles also reinforced Panelo’s statement, saying that there is no need for the other two island groups to be under ECQ. he did, however, said that the IATF will observe trends in the region daily and weekly.
Despite not being under ECQ, Visayas and Mindanao still observes social and physical distancing to further prevent the COVID-19 spread, Nograles added.
“Kapag nagkaroon na ng vaccine about diyan sa virus, we can go back to the old normal,”
As per the report, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the extension of ECQ in the entire Luzon until the end of April in order to further contain the spread of the virus.
About 57 million people residing in Luzon will be severely limited as they are allowed to leave homes to perform essential activities like buying food.
