Brgy. Volunteer Manning Checkpoint Was Badly Beaten by a Family
A barangay volunteer who was manning a checkpoint was badly beaten by the family from other barangay after he prohibited to enter.
In a report of GMA News, a 63-year-old barangay volunteer was wounded after he was badly beaten by three men when he prohibited them to enter the village checkpoint in Calamba, Laguna.
The victim, Enrique Atole, of Parian village, was found to have suffered bruises on the face and body. Atole said the suspects were mad when he allowed a resident to buy medicine for a sick son.
The victim said she explained the situation of the person he allowed to go through because it had a prescription of medicines. Shortly thereafter, the three suspects chased and beat the victim even after he fell, according to an eyewitness.
The victim was offended and express dismay, said he simply does his duty to protect the people. The Parian barangay captain is also angry because the victim is still threatened that they will return when the COVID-19 problem is resolved.
In an interview, the suspects said that they admitted the assault and apologized to the victim. It also promised never to repeat the incident. Police are investigating the incident and authorities have promised to arrest any of the offenders of the frontliners, including volunteers who guard the checkpoint.
