In some cases, patients experienced diarrhea while a 20-year old American who confessed that she got the virus shared that she loses her hearing in both ears.

Meanwhile, based on the report from ABS-CBN News, a study of British scientists revealed new findings. Their group developed a symptom tracker app that collects data to help monitor the cause of the new coronavirus.

Their study revealed that losing your sense of smell and taste may be the key symptoms of COVID-19. Reportedly, 60 percent of new coronavirus patients reported that they lose their sense of smell and taste as the data analyzed by the scientists revealed.

This number is compared to the 18 percent who tested negative for COVID-19. Based on the report, these results were posted online but weren’t peer-reviewed yet. However, the King’s College London’s researchers said that this is stronger in predicting a COVID-19 positive diagnosis than those who report that they have a fever.

Between March 24 and March 29, there were 1.5 million people who used the app and 26 percent of the users reported one or more symptoms via the app. 1,790 persons reportedly got tested and 579 tested positive and 1,123 tested negative.

Researchers, through the collected data, were able to develop a mathematical model to identify the combination of symptoms, based on the report. These range from loss of smell and taste, to fever, persistent cough, fatigue, diarrhea, abdominal pain and loss of appetite.

Tim Spector, a professor at King’s College London and the leader of the research, said, “When combined with other symptoms, people with loss of smell and taste appear to be three times more likely to have contracted COVID-19 according to our data, and should, therefore, self-isolate for seven days to reduce the spread of the disease.”

The result of the research was applied to 400,000 people who reported their symptoms through the app but haven’t undergone the COVID-19 test yet. Based on the report, 13 percent of them are more likely infected.

With this, Spector said that it is more likely that 50,000 people in Britain are unconfirmed COVID-19 patients.
