A garbage collector in Quezon City has this statement for Mayor Joy Belmonte
Alquin Flores, a garbage collector in Quezon City, called out to Mayor Joy Belmonte amid the enhanced community quarantine due to COVID-19.
Belmonte, as known to many, has been receiving criticisms on how she handles the health crisis in the City of Stars. Apparently, Flores also has “shining” addressed to the city mayor.
Based on the article from PEP, the garbage collector just wanted the attention of Belmonte not just for him but for all the residents of Quezon City who badly need the help of the local government.
“Yung mapansin lang kami ni Mayor Joy Belmonte ang panawagan ko, lalo na yung mga higit na nangangailangan. Marami na ang galit sa kanya dahil sa paraan ng pamamalakad niya. Ganoon pa man, gawin niya ang lahat ng makakaya para rin sa sarili,” Flores said.
He also fears for his safety, because just like medical personnel, garbage collectors can also be considered frontliners. “Yung mga nakakasalamuha namin na mga residente, hindi kami nakakasiguro kung infected ba sila ng virus. At yung mga basura na may nakukuha kami na used facemasks, wala kaming kamalay-malay kung may nahahawakan o nadadampot na kami na virus,” he shared.
According to Flores, they provided for the masks that they are using. He said that they just for some donations of masks and soap but there was no alcohol. In this situation, he, along with his co-workers, are still working amid the community quarantine.
Flores said that they wanted the local government to pay attention to their needs also in this trying time. It is because they haven’t received yet the relief goods that the local government promised.
“Wala pang kumakatok sa bahay naming. Ang importante, kahit papaano nakakaraos pa naman kami Mahirap kung ang relief goods ang aasahan namin,” the teary-eyed Flores shared.
Despite this situation, the garbage collector is hoping for better things to come. He said that he will continue to cling to his faith. The most important thing for him is that he has no illness, based on the article.
“Sabi nga nila, sa araw-araw namin na pangongolekta ng mga basura, immune na raw kami kaya kahit COVID-19, hindi na kami tatamaan,” Flores shared.
