Philippines Rice Stock Good For 75 Days, Says DA Chief

DA chief said on Saturday that Philippines rice stock is good for 75 days.

PHILIPPINES RICE STOCK – Department of Agriculture said that the rice stock of the Philippines is sufficient for 75 days amid the crisis.

As the number of confirmed cases in the country continually increases due to COVID-19 infection, many people are in alarmed status the same way the government does in order to prevent the spread of the virus. Enhanced community quarantine are being declared in several areas and the whole country is under state of calamity as declared by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Travel ban and work and classes suspensions were implemented which has affected many people especially the poor who only depends from their salaries. Meanwhile, to those who are bothered if ever the rice stock in the Philippines is not sufficient following a month-long enhanced quarantine in Luzon, worry not.

On Saturday, March 28, Agriculture Secretary William Dar stated that their rice inventory during this month showed that the supply is sufficient for Luzon and the whole country for the next 75 days. The rice inventory has a total of 2.661 million metric tons (MT), inclusive of commercial, household and government stocks.

On the other hand, the National Food Authority (NFA) Administrator Judy Carol Dansal said that they have 9.636 million bags or 481,800 MT according to their latest inventory as well. This is good for 14 days for the whole country.

And at this dire time of need for basic necessities, which includes the rice, Dar said according to GMA, “Currently, our priority is to serve the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the LGUs so they could include in food packs for their respective distribution.”
