Calapan Baby Tests Positive For Coronavirus, The City’s First Case
BABY TESTS POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS – As the coronavirus cases increase in the Philippines, Calapan City in Mindoro Oriental reports its first case of the diseases.
Due to the rising number of cases of COVID-19 in the country, President Rodrigo Duterte implemented an enhanced community quarantine in Luzon.
Following this, provinces like Negros Occidental had also implemented the same. With the enhanced community quarantine, public transportation is suspended and travel is restricted.
The new coronavirus could target anybody from any age group. However, it is most deadly to the elderly with underlying health conditions. Additionally, 80% of those who contract the virus have mild to little symptoms.
But, the first coronavirus case ever reported in Calapan City was not an elderly person but a baby. This was reported by Oriental Mindoro Governor Bonz Dolor.
According to a report from ABS-CBN, the governor stated that a one-year-and-nine-month old baby with travel history to Metro Manila tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, samples were taken from the parents of the child.
Furthermore, authorities have begun conducting contact tracing for the people who have come in close contact with the baby. Following this, their barangay had also imposed a “no-movement” policy.
As per the report, the governor urged the public to cooperate and follow instructions of authorities and adhere to home quarantine and physical distancing. Meanwhile, a warning had been made to residents who would break quarantine.
Currently, there are 525,807 cases of COVID-19 infections worldwide. Along with this, 23,714 have died due to the virus. Meanwhile, 123,329 have recovered.
