Stranded Boholanos In Leyte To Receive ₱300K Cash Aid
STRANDED BOHOLANOS – The stranded Boholanos in Bato town, Leyte receive ₱300,000 worth of cash aid from the provincial government.
The Boholanos were stranded in Leyte due to the suspension of air and sea travels to Bohol.
According to Bohol Chronicles, Liza Lecaros from Bato Municipal Social Welfare and Development disclosed that the said amount has been transferred to the account of their local government unit (LGU) from the Bohol Provincial Treasurer’s Office.
Lecaros said that the amount was used to buy three full meals a day for the stranded and their basic needs. The meals were added with 130 packed meals worth at around ₱24,000 from the office of Second District Rep. Aris Aumentado.
The money sent by the Bohol government covered expenses that was shouldered by the Bato government. However, it is likely be enough should the stranded take shelter at the town’s evacuation center for a longer period of time.
“Kining tanan namo na gasto mura’g for three days ra mao toy among e-charge namo didto then og kuwangan ra kay di man g’yud to paigo kami na taga LGU Bato mo [puno],”
As of now, there are around 130 stranded who are currently at the evacuation center in Bato.
They were all tagged as persons under monitoring considering that they came from Metro Manila where the COVID-19 is rapidly spreading.
As per the report, there were about 200 Boholanos who came in busloads in Bato last Monday hoping that they would reach Bohol before it implemented the community quarantine but others tried to sneak into the province while others went to their relatives.
“Sad to note na nag-iyahay sila og paningkamot na makaabot g’yud sila sa Bohol, pero beyond nana sa among control,”
Meanwhile, others were found in lodging houses and were brought to the evacuation center for quarantine.
“Nagsuroy-suroy sila sa among tawn pero di man mi mo sugot ana,”
The provincial government is considering a mercy mission for the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to fetch the stranded passengers and take them to Bohol where they will be quarantined. However, details on the operation has yet to be disclosed or clarified.
