Two Hundred Boholanos From Manila Stranded In Bato, Leyte

TWO HUNDRED BOHOLANOS – About two hundered Boholanos from Manila have been stranded in Bato. Leyte due to COVID-19 community quarantine.

According to Bohol Chronicle, the said stranded Boholanos have received aid and were transferred to an evacuation center after one of the passengers posted their situation via social media and called the government,

Anthony Damalerio, chief of Bohol Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said that Governor Arthur Yap has coordinated with Nathaniel Gertos, mayor of Bato town who also agreed to aid the stranded passengers and move them from a gymnasium to an evacuation center.

The netizen behind the posting of situation, identified as Jhoanne Adecer said that upon reaching the evacuation center, they were given porridge and bread.

IJhoanne’s post showed the stranded initially sleeping on flattened cardboard boxes in a gymnasium under construction prior to their transfer.

“I think they’re starting to move po. We’ve just been transferred to the evacuation center. They also gave us lugaw and two pieces of bread a while ago. We are still in need of help for our sleeping essentials [like] sleeping mats, pillows and blankets, and daily essentials,”

As per the report, Damalerio said that the provincial government will not be lifting the community quarantine within he set period of March 16 up to 20 and will not exclude anyone.

However, the capitol will provide more aid to the stranded via the Bato local government unit (LGU).

“Ang decision sa technical working group is mopdayon ta sa atong community quarantine, strong ang atong resolve ana. Mao pud na ang stand sa atong mga health experts, silang Dr. Lechago and Dr. Yul of the PHO, so maghuwat g’yud na sila sa five days,”

The number of stranded passengers is more likely to reduce within the next few days as some decided to stay with relatives in Leyte.

As of the moment, none of the stranded have shown symptoms of COVID-19. They are however set to undergo thorough examination on this day via the Bato Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.

Once the quarantine has been lifted, they may enter Bohol via Ubay town in Leyte.
