Northern Samar To Be Put Under Community Quarantine Says Governor

NORTHERN SAMAR TO BE PUT UNDER QUARANTINE – Governor Edwin Ongchuan says Northern Samar will be placed under general community quarantine on March 19, 2020.

The Philippines had seen an increasing trend in the number of COVID-19 cases. As such, the government had imposed several countermeasures against the spread of the virus.

Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte placed the entirety of Luzon under an enhanced community Quarantine. Likewise, the city of Bacolod in Negros Occidental also followed and imposed a community quarantine as well.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, limited entry and exit of people to and from Northern Samar will be effective until April 15, 2020.

The movement of Nortehanons shall be limited to accessing basic necessities and work, and uniformed personnel and quarantine officers shall be present at border points

As with the new policy, individuals leaving and entering the province will be checked for symptoms of the virus at checkpoints. Additionally, the entry and exit of the elderly, immunocompromised, and pregnant women will be restricted.

As per the report, those exempted from the restrictions are the following:

  • Health Workers
  • Police
  • Soldiers
  • Returning Residents
  • Skeletal Workforce
  • Cargo Vehicles
  • Essential supplies (Food, Medicine, Etc.)

Along with this, classes in all public and private schools are suspended till April 14, 2020. Moreover, the province is implementing a 9:00 pm to 4:00 am curfew.

Fiestas and similar mass gathering events will also be canceled. Public transportation won’t be suspended, however, drivers are required to frequently disinfect their vehicles and adhere to social distancing among passengers.
