Makati Mayor Orders P2000 Initial Financial Assistance To City’s Tricycle Drivers

MAKATI: P2000 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – Amid the enhanced community quarantine in Luzon, drivers struggle to make ends meet.

The Philippines has faced an increasing amount of COVID-19 cases. In lieu of this, President Rodrigo Duterte imposed an enhanced community quarantine in the entirety of Luzon.

This meant that new restrictions are mandated to curve the spread of the virus in the country. In line with the enhanced community quarantine, local transportation has been suspended.

As such, the Makati City government has imposed an order to address that issue. Makati has a recorded 5,946 tricycle drivers in total who need financial.

In order to adhere to social distancing protocols, public transportation has been suspended. Because of this, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay posted this on her Twitter page.

Good News #Makatizens! I’ve ordered the release of P2k initial financial assistance for the city’s 5,946 tricycle drivers. This covers the first 2 weeks of the community quarantine.

Following this, Binay urged drivers in a separate statement to wait for instructions regarding how to claim the financial aid.

Additionally, Makati’s local chief executive stated that the local government has plans of a separate financial package for jeepney drivers also hit by the transport suspension.

Moreover, Binay told residents most affected by the quarantine that measures are in place to provide them assistance.

Currently, there have been over 199,054 individuals infected with COVID-19 worldwide. Along with this, 7,992 have died to the virus. However, 82,779 already recovered.

In a span of 3 months, the virus had reached over 100,000 infections. However, it took only 12 days for the virus to complete the other 100,000.
