Philnews.ph Mulls Filing Case Vs. Rappler Over “Fact Check” Issue

Philnews.ph Responds to Rappler’s “Fact Check” Article About Its News Report

PHILNEWS – The authorities behind Philnews.ph are thinking about filing a case against Rappler over a “Fact Check” issue.

Last February 28, Jay Nelz of Philnews.ph published an article entitled “#WalangPasok: March 2, 7, & 31, 2020 Declared as Special Non-Working Holidays“. The said news report contained full information about the work suspensions in specific areas due to certain events.

The said report was published via WordPress, a content management system that has limits on title and meta description characters. Because of the said limitations, it was impossible for the writer to include all the areas in the title. Meanwhile, he stated all information in the content.

However, amid the Philnews.ph report bringing full content to the public, Rappler published a “Fact Check” article featuring the said news report from the former.

In its article, Rappler tagged the headline of Philnews.ph as “False Headline” due to assumptions that the readers may only rely on the title. Again, the writer was not able to specify all the areas that the work suspension covers due to the limitations set by the platform where it was published.

The said Rappler article was written by Michael Bueza. In his article, he stated that March 2, 7 and 31 are not nationwide holidays. Not once did the writer from Philnews.ph tagged those dates as “nationwide” for it to be corrected.

Above all these, Philnews.ph believes that each part of the news article plays a vital role and the responsible readers check not only the title but as well as the content.

The move of Rappler has affected Philnews.ph whose only aim is to deliver factual news reports to the public. Yesterday, March 3, 2020, Philnews.ph sent a letter to Rappler.

Philnews.ph presented its side and asked Rappler to take down its article that puts the former in bad light. However, no response was received by Philnews.ph yet. Currently, the said article by Michael Bueza is still on Rappler’s website and Philnews.ph is mulling over filing a case against Rappler.

Philnews.ph never intended to mislead its readers, the people that the website values the most in this field. In all ways possible, the website is determined to protect its name and to continue pushing forward for unbiased news delivery to the people.
