According to Panay News, the RMFB commander, identified as Police Lieutenant Colonel Leo Batiles, is currently facing probe due to an accident in Barangay Ginomoy, Alimodian, Iloilo, which occurred on Saturday afternoon.

The RMFB is currently commanded by Batiles’ deputy Police Lieutenant John Lemuel Villafranca.

Police Brigadier General Rene Pamuspusan, PRO-6 director, reported that he noted “command responsibility” as the reason why Batiles has been relieved from his post.

“We need an investigation para alam natin ang lapses. May nakita akong mali sa kanila. Kahit may namatay at may nasugatan, we need to this,”

A truck, which was transporting RMFB officers fell into a ravine in the said location. The mishap left with 4 officers dead and 20 more injured.

The vehicle was owned by the local government of Alimodan. The policemen were about to be taken back to their camp from an offensive operation.

“The investigation is from the battalion commander down to the company commander. They should look after the welfare of their men. They should have used dalawang sasakyan para hindi sila crowded sa truck,”

Pamuspusan also wondered why they did not use 6×6 trucks from the police.

“Kasi we have to anticipate possible incidents like i-ambush sila or may landmine or vehicular accident. Or dapat naglakad na lang sila kasi malapit lang ang kanilang headquarters.  Ito hindi na plano properly,”

As per the report, he visited the families of the fatalities and visited the injured in hospitals.

“I assured them of our support. I made sure their needs were being provided,”
