Rappler & Kami.com.ph Also Commit Way of Headlining they Tagged as “Misleading”
Rappler and Kami.com.ph reported a title from a news article published in Philnews.ph as “misleading” but they also do the same.
Philnews.ph has always been committed to delivering unbiased and factual news reports to its audience. Even in the slightest extent, it never intended to mislead the readers with its titles or any part of the article.
Last February 28, one of the writers in Philnews.ph, Jay Nelz, published an article entitled “#WalangPasok: March 2, 7, & 31, 2020 Declared as Special Non-Working Holidays“.
The Philnews.ph author cannot specify the areas covered by the different declarations in the title of his article due to the limit set by WordPress. Meanwhile, he made sure that all information are packed in the content.
Following the Philnews.ph article circulating on social media and catching a lot of readers’ attention, Rappler published a “Fact Check” article tagging Philnews.ph’s headline as “FALSE HEADLINE”.
In its content, Rappler stated that “March 2, 7, and 31 cover only certain areas and are not nationwide holidays”. In the said Philnews.ph article, never did the writer tagged the said dates as “nationwide holidays”. Again, all information are packed in the content.
Philnews.ph has a firm belief that the right readers do not depend on the news title alone as there are limits to it. Considering that there are a lot of fake news nowadays, it is really best to check on the full details. Surely, no media website or news writer can place all the details in the title. If that is possible, the “content” would have never come to existence.
Aside from Rappler, another online media website reported about the factual-but-turned-controversial title of Philnews.ph. Kami.com.ph published an article tagging the said title as “misleading”.
In its title, Kami.com.ph stressed that “March 2,7 & 31 are not declared as national holidays”. True, they are not national holidays and not once did Philnews.ph named them as national holidays.
Grasping the full factual details in the said Philnews.ph article will not take anyone more than five (5) minutes to understand that the said holidays only cover certain areas.
Before wrapping up the simple matter that was turned controversial because of a title, Philnews.ph has visited Rappler and Kami.com.ph’s websites to check on their titles for similar news reports. Maybe, we can get some tips on how to present it better. However, it turned out that they actually do the same way of headlining.
Let us take for example this #WalangPasok report published last January 14, 2020. In its title, Rappler wrote “#WalangPasok: Class Suspensions, Wednesday, January 15, 2020”.
Note: The class suspension only covers certain areas but these areas were also not stated in the title.
Kami.com.ph also does the same – not including the areas covered by a class or work suspension in the headline. Here’s one:
At the end of this, Philnews.ph assures its readers that it will continue to cling even tighter to its goal to deliver factual and unbiased reports. Have a nice day!
