2 Volcanic Earthquakes in Batangas Recorded by Phivolcs

The state volcanology agency Phivolcs recorded two volcanic earthquakes in Batangas as Taal remains under alert level 2.

On Tuesday (February 25, 2020), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) released the latest updates regarding Taal Volcano in Batangas on their 8:00 A.M bulletin.

Phivolcs reported that at least two volcanic earthquakes were felt in Agoncillo, Batangas on Monday evening (February 24). The Taal Volcano Network recorded 45 volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours.

The two volcanic quakes were felt by the resident of Barangay Bilibinwang at 7:37 pm and 7:51 pm at Intensity I. 50 to 100 meters high steam-laden plumes were also found in Taal’s main crater.

Two weeks ago, the seismology agency lowered the alert status in Taal Volcano after showing decreased unrest. However, Phivolcs still prohibits entry in the permanent danger zone for the safety of everyone.

“Local government units are advised to additionally assess previously evacuated areas within the seven-kilometer radius for damages and road accessibilities and to strengthen preparedness, contingency and communication measures in case of renewed unrest,” the agency said.
